A Little About Me

I’ve been in love with architecture since I was eleven years old.  While other girls my age were buying teenie-bopper magazines, I was buying Better Homes and Gardens.  My favorite hobby all the way through high school was to design various floor plans and build models.

Over the years I have gained experience from nearly every angle of the design and building industry – architecture, interior design, landscape design, project management, contracting, estimating – in several areas of use including residential, small commercial, retail and public buildings.

I have found my strongest love to be in historical buildings and in melding architectural salvage with new spaces.  Most intriguing to me are challenging spaces that require unique and clever solutions to make them function within their purpose.  New and exciting products and methods are constantly emerging in the building market creating more possibilities every day.  I have a big imagination and at times have to remember to reign it in!

There are the run-of-mill, cliche’ phrases I could write about myself as a designer, however I wish to share instead a quote from Vitruvius, an architect who lived in the times of Caesar.  These words I take genuinely to heart.

“Let him be educated, skilful with the pencil, instructed in geometry, know much history, have followed the philosophers with attention, understand music, have some knowledge of medicine, know the opinions of the jurists, and be acquainted with astronomy and the theory of the heavens.”    – Vitruvius: The Ten Books on Architecture on the education of an architect…

This blog is intended to share honesty, thoughtfulness and helpful knowledge to those who are considering or planning a renovation project on their home.
